Empower Every Learner to Thrive!

Envirothon

Eligibility Requirements:
Students in 9th – 12th grade are encouraged to participate in the Envirothon competition. Through the Envirothon program, students learn about soils, rangelands, forestry, aquatics, and wildlife.  In addition, they learn about a current major issue that affects our land and water every day. Each team consists of five members who must work together to identify plants, animals, and soil types, conduct water quality testing, and prepare a professional presentation about a current issue. The program promotes teamwork, friendship, study skills, appreciation & stewardship of natural resources, and just plain fun.

Time Commitment:
Envirothon students typically meet once a week for 1/2 hour. There is a regional competition held in the fall, which requires students to be absent from school for one day. There is a state competition held in the spring, which requires students to be absent from school for two days.

Procedures for Joining:
Come and see one of the advisors to sign up.

Activity Time Period:
Envirothon students meet from August through May.

Membership Limit:
Teams competing in Envirothon consist of five members with the opportunity for a 6th member as an alternate. Century High School typically sends two teams to the regional competition and one team to the state competition.

Location of Meetings:
Envirothon students meet in Room E113.
